Thanks for tuning in!  At any given time I have several projects going – live performances, recording projects, tours, many different things.  I like playing both Hammond B3 organ (I bought mine in 1971 new and still travel with it) and Acoustic Piano (there are a few venues around my hometown of Austin and Ft Worth I play on occasion).  Check out my monthly Blog here to find out special events, special projects or other items of interest that I may be doing in your area or things you can check out on YouTube or watch and listen to otherwise.  I am all about music and playing music with my many friends around the planet…

Here’s the latest things I am doing

Around Austin there are several musicians I like playing with and some have specific names…  and we do regular gigs around Austin

Tuesday & Wednesday, Ephraim Owens/trumpet and Brannen Temple/drums and Red/Hammond B3 organ have a trio called Black Red Black.  Ephraim has a special night called the Ephraim Owens Experience.  Same guys but Ephraim calls the tunes on Tuesday and Brannen calls them on WednesdaysTuesday night at the Continental Club Gallery (upstairs from the Continental Club at 1315 S. Congress in Austin) starts around 10:30 and goes until 1:30.  no cover charge but we appreciate your tips…   Wednesday night at One 2 One on S. Lamar in Austin starts around 10pm and goes until 12:30 or so.  No cover on that one either…  We have a CD/enhanced CD out with Black Red Black, available at Waterloo Records in Austin or online on iTunes….  Or you can pick one up at our performances…

In case Ephraim is out on tour with Tedeschi Trucks Band, Brannen and I do a thing we call The Brannen & Red Show with just Brannen on drums & percussion and Red on Hammond B3 & keyboard.  We play the history of music from old soul, fusion, jazz, blues, whatever we feel like and we do it all.  We do that at both the Continental Club Gallery & One 2 One Bar

Thursdays, Red Young & His Hot Horns is at Antones 305 E 5th Street in Austin for Happy Hour 6:30-8:30.  5 horns (2 trumpet/alto-tenor-baritone saxes) acoustic bass, drums and myself on piano/Hammond organ & vocals.  Some of the best musicians in Austin – some play with other groups but you won’t hear them play this way with other groups.   Band includes – Brannen Temple (drums), Nick Clark (bass), David Young & Steve Butts (trumpets), Daniel Robinson (alto sax), Kaz Kazanoff or Mike Malone (tenor sax), Dan Bechdolt (baritone sax).  We’ve also had Marcus Graf, Bennett Wood, Russell Haight, Greg Wilson, Dan Torosian, Charles Medearis, Dave Sierra, Chip Vayenas, Scott Laningham, Alex Browne and many others.  Special guests when they’re in town as well.  Material we do is everything from Ray Charles, Percy Mayfield, Joe Williams to Quincy Jones, Dizzy Gillespie and originals as well.  And I’ve been writing a lot lately…

Every month I do various shows in other places – here’s the list:

The Elephant Room in Austin, TX  315 Congress Ave.  9:30pm-1:30am.  One Saturday a month – Red Young’s Tenor Madness (2 tenor players going at it – me on Hammond).

Scat Jazz Lounge in Ft Worth, TX  On 4th Street between Main & Houston in the alley and downstairs.  One Saturday a month  9pm-1am.  Organ trio

The Brass House in Austin, TX    Red Young Quartet – Hammond B3 organ, trumpet & sax, & drums.  One Friday a month.

June 23-25 I’ll be in Nashville, TN for the Summer NAMM (National Association of Music Merchandisers) Show at Nashville Music City Center.  Special show June 23 where I’ll be performing some Jimmy Smith and Red tunes at Soundcheck Nashville and I’ll be at the Hammond booth (#430) every day during the show.

June 26 I’m doing a gig at Callaghan’s Irish Social Club in Mobile, AL at 7pm with my organ trio.  Ought to be fun!  916 Charleston St., Mobile, AL 36604   251-433-9374

Hope to see you out at some of my shows here in Austin and elsewhere!!
