Red Young

Brother Red/Organ Quartet is an organ quartet featuring Red on Hammond B3 (who when he first started playing the Hammond in Massachusetts became known as Brother Red echoing the way he plays the B3), drums, trumpet and saxophone. We play primarily Soul Jazz – that period in American music that had a more funky and earthy sound to it – Charles Earland, Groove Holmes, Jack McDuff, War, Isaac Hayes, Barry White, etc. The name comes from when Red first started playing the Hammond organ in Massachusetts in 1969, he became known as Brother Red reflecting the soulful way he plays the B3. In 2000, Red put out a trio album with friends in LA (Kenny Sara on drums and James Achor on guitar) and they played together for awhile with that group, mostly playing in the Los Angeles-San Franciso area and even played in Texas for the first time in 2001. That group broke up in 2002 when Red moved to Austin and Red started working more with Austin musicians.
